Vanuatu: Ambrym Volcano - Apr 2009

Disaster description

Volcanic activity of Ambrym Volcano in Vanuatu continued since it started in December 2008. Dark smoke and acid rain as a result of the volcanic activity posed a threat to human lives, water safety, crops and vegetation. (WHO, 7 April 2009) More than 9,000 people were affected particularly those who live on the western part of Ambrym. (WHO, 17 Apr 2009)
