Norway will provide a further NOK 30 million to alleviate the situation in Somalia. The funds will be channelled through the Somalia Humanitarian Fund, which is administered by the UN, and through Save the Children Norway and Norwegian Church Aid.

'Over the last year, Somalia has been severely affected by drought. Now, the population has been hit by flash floods and river flooding. The authorities and humanitarian actors are doing their best to respond to the situation. It is important that Norway also does its part,' said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

Today, May 23, upon the request of the Government of the Republic of Djibouti, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, blankets, etc.) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Djibouti in response to the damages caused by the recent flooding.

  2. Upon the request of the Government of the Republic of Djibouti, and in light of the humanitarian perspective and the cordial relations between Japan and Djibouti, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Djibouti to meet its humanitarian needs.

The cyclonic storm “SAGAR” over Gulf of Aden moved further west-southwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 19 th May 2018 over Gulf of Aden near latitude 11.1 0N and longitude 44.8 0E; about 170 km south-southeast of Aden (Yemen) and 1000 km west-southwest of Socotra Islands. It is very likely to continue to move west-southwestwards and weaken gradually and cross Somalia coast near longitude 440E during afternoon of today, the 19th May 2018 as a cyclonic storm with wind speed 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph.

A depression formed over Gulf of Aden in the evening of yesterday, the 16th May 2018. Moving west-northwestwards it intensified into a deep depression in the early morning and further into a cyclonic storm “Sagar” at 0830 hours IST of today the 17th May 2018 over Gulf of Aden near latitude 13.20N and longitude 48.70E; about 400 km east-northeast of Aden (Yemen) and 560 km west-northwest of Socotra Islands. It is very likely to intensify slightly further during next 12 hrs.
