This map illustrates satellite detected potentially damaged buildings within the affected neighborhoods in Djibouti, Djibouti District, Djibouti Region, Djibouti. Potentially affected neighborhoods were defined according to field data. The analysis was conducted by analyzing a post-event Pleiades image acquired on 23 May 2018, after the passage of Tropical Cyclone Sagar-18, compared with a pre-event WorldView-2 image acquired on 23 April 2018.

UNITAR – UNOSAT, following the request of UNOCHA Djibouti , has performed a rapid flood assessment to illustrate the impact caused after the passage of Tropical Cyclone Sagar-18 over Djibouti & Balbala. For this rapid flood analysis UNOSAT has used post-event cloud free images of the area, collected on the 20th & 21st May 2018, 3 meters resolution.

Expected Landfall in Ethiopia: Sunday 20 May, 14:00 local time

Tropical Storm SAGAR will likely have transformed into a Tropical Depression when it reaches Ethiopia - expected for Sunday early afternoon. Wind speeds will reach up to 56 km/h. SAGAR is expected to cause increased rainfall when it hits.

Following a Tropical Cylcone in the gulf of Aden, heavy rains that led to flash floods were experienced in Bari region of Puntland in the last 12 hours. The rains are expected intensify during the next two days in most parts of Puntland and Somaliland with a reduction on 21/05/2018. Flash floods and strong winds will be experienced during this time in these areas.
