Summary

The AHA Centre Disaster Monitoring & Response System (DMRS) has recognized that Typhoon Damrey (28) stopped on 4 November 2017, 19.00 (UTC+7), and damages in provinces in Central-South of Vietnam were sustained.

This is the final update for alert status to Typhoon Damrey (28).

AHA Centre will continue to monitor the emergency response situation on the ground. Updates will be provided should the situation escalate

SOUTH CENTRAL REGION — At least 20 people have died and 17 are missing as Typhoon Damrey, the 12th to emerge from the East Sea this year, made landfall this morning in the south-central province of Khánh Hoà.

Located directly in the storm’s path, Khánh Hoà alone has reported 12 fatalities, while the coastal province of Bình Định and the Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng have reported five and three deaths respectively, according to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The power of storm No 12, internationally called storm Damrey, which is forecasted to hit the central and southern regions, has been strengthened and it is moving toward the west, according to National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

At 7am on Friday morning, the storm was some 450km off the coast of Khánh Hòa and Ninh Thuận provinces to the east. The strongest wind power near the storm’s eye has reached level 11 and 12 of 18 (100-135km per hour), with a gust of up to level 15 (167-183km per hour).

• The total rainfall accumulation associated to the storm may bring extreme rainfall
