13 Nov 2013 description

Vienna, 12 November 2013 – Typhoon Haiyan has robbed millions of people on the Philippines of their livelihoods. According to first estimates more than 23,000 houses have been damaged or completely destroyed. Some 800,000 people fled from the typhoon, many of them have lost everything. The death toll is expected to reach 10,000 and providing help to the survivors is a serious challenge. The local infrastructure has broken down completely in many places; airports have been destroyed, ports damaged and roads buried by debris. Remote villages are still cut off from the outside world.
