According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration 3 Nock-Ten (Nina) (PAGASA), the Philippines is prone to tropical cyclones due to its geographical location which generally produce heavy rains, flooding of large areas and also strong winds which result in heavy casualties to human life and destruction to crops and properties. On average, the country is frequented by 20 tropical cyclones annually, almost half of which made landfall.

MATAG-OB, Leyte, Sept 16 (PIA) -- Thirty families in Barangay San Sebastian in Leyte province are now happy owners of permanent homes said Clotilde Malatbalat, provincial social worker of Leyte.
She said the core shelter project costing more than P2.8 million for the 30 families, was sourced from the combined funds of the DSWD of P70,000 per beneficiary, P10,000 each from the provincial government of Leyte and P15,000 each from the local government unit of Matag-ob.

Iloilo (26 March) -- Presidential Adviser Raul Banias said rehabilitation fund for typhoon Frank ravaged areas should be released immediately so that Panay will not suffer additional damages when the rainy days begin.
