The bilateral housing project between the Grenada Red Cross (GRC) and Australian Red Cross (ARC) ended in September.

Following hurricanes Ivan, Emily and Dennis all of which affected Grenada in some way, the ARC which got the funds from Australian Aid (Australian Government) donated approximately US$200,000 to construct 19, three bedroom houses.

In recognition of the project the GRC held a ceremony to thank the ARC for their efforts. The ceremony took place in the presence of beneficiaries of Requin and Stone Road in St.

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund and the Jamaica Red Cross have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will see both organizations collaborating to respond to the health needs of the population in emergency situations.

Under the agreement, which came into effect on July 19, 2005 and will expire on December 31, 2006, UNFPA will provide the Red Cross with Nine Hundred Eighty Two Thousand, Five Hundred Jamaican Dollars (JA$982,500.00) for the procurement and preparation of a total of 750 hygiene kits.

The Grenada Red Cross continues to reach out to those affected by Hurricane Emily, this time heading to Carriacou to distribute tarpaulins and hygiene kits.

Last Saturday the first of two planes arrived from the Pan American Disaster Relief Unit (PADRU) in Panama with a shipment of some 1600 tarpaulins, 950 hygiene kits and jerry cans.

1500 tarps, 850 hygiene kits and 75 cases of water were distributed on Sunday in St. Patrick's and St. Andrew's.

Among the communities reached included Pointzfield, Mt. Rose , River Sallee, Hermitage, Rosehill, Mt.

As Hurricane Emily swept over the Windward Islands, it left a trail of destruction in Grenada and Tobago, two of the islands still recovering from last year's damage caused by Hurricane Ivan.

In Grenada, Emily, the fifth tropical storm of the Atlantic season ripped off roofs and caused severe flooding in several parishes including St Patrick, St Andrew, St David and the capital, St George's.
