BRAHMANBARIA, Bangladesh, May 9 (Reuters) - Five days after the year's worst storm killed at least 23 people and left around 400 injured in a Bangladeshi village, the survivors on Friday were mostly without food, medicine and shelter.

"We are confronting growing hunger and endless pain, and passing time in a nightmare," said Rafiqul Islam, who lost his parents and three other family members.

Dhaka (dpa) - The death toll from a tornado in eastern Bangladesh climbed to 25 Tuesday as rescue workers found five more bodies under the debris of flattened homes and fallen trees, local police said.

At least 5,000 people were homeless after the powerful twister turned four villages into rubble in the border district of Brahmanbaria, 250 kilometres east of the capital Dhaka.

An earlier report said 20 people were killed and a hundred other injured in Monday's tornado that had left a trail of devastation.
