Tropical Cyclone Gina - Jun 2003

Disaster description

On 5 June 2003, Tropical Cyclone Gina passed 56 km west of the island of Tikopia, the Solomon Islands, affecting the island with winds up to 93-111 km/h. The cyclone caused damage to the districts of Faea and Ravenga, a part of the areas declared as a disaster area due to Tropical Cyclone Zoe, which occurred in January 2003. A total of 112 newly re-built houses and 128 kitchens were badly damaged; 37 houses were slightly damaged. A landslide was reported at Ravenga. (OCHA, 30 Jun 2003)
