Tropical Storm Soudelor - Jun 2003

Disaster description

Landslides and floods caused by tropical storm "Soudelor" hit central and northern Philippines from 14 June 2003 onwards. Soudelor sustained winds of 110 kph and gusts of up to 140 kph. According to news reports, by 18 June 2003, 11 people were killed, three were injured and two others were missing. The Department of Social Welfare and Development declared on 17 June that the tropical storm had displaced 16,131 families in the northern and central provinces of Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes and Camarines Sur. An additional 46,472 individuals were also affected. (OCHA, 18 Jun 2003)
