Disaster description

On 9 May 2003, Tropical Cyclone Manou reached the eastern coast of Madagascar making landfall over the Districts of Andevoranto and Vatomandry in the Province of Tomasina. (OCHA, 14 May 2003) The cyclone caused 68 deaths, 19 people went missing, 86 people were injured, and some 110,300 were affected. Some 24,500 houses were destroyed, the number of homeless people was estimated at approximately 47,500. (OCHA, 16 May 2003)
