Tropical Depression Edeng - Jul 2000
Disaster description
In conjunction with yearly southwest monsoon, two tropical depressions, "Ditang" (Kirogi) and "Edeng" (Kai-Tak), dumped heavy rains over the Regions of Ilocos, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Western Visaya, the National Capital Region and over Carlatan since 4 July 2000. Heavy rains led to floods of wide areas and to several landslides.
According to the final bulletin issued by the Philippine National Disaster Coordinating Council on 10 July 2000, 42 persons were killed, 11 persons injured and 13 persons reported missing. In all, almost 64,000 families were affected; 11,310 families (54,308 persons) were evacuated to 219 evacuation centres. (OCHA, 11 Jul 2000)
