Sudan: Floods - Jul 2025
Disaster description
Between 14 and 15 July 2025, heavy rain and floods across Dar As Salam town of Dar As Salam locality, North Darfur reportedly displaced 87 households. Field teams estimated that 87 houses were destroyed, while 37 houses were partially damaged. Displaced households sought shelter with host communities within the same locality. (IOM, 16 Jul 2025)
On 28 July 2025, heavy rain and floods across Fangoga Alshargia village in Ar Rahad locality, North Kordofan reportedly displaced 110 households. Field teams estimated that 110 houses were destroyed, while 60 houses were partially damaged. Displaced households sought shelter with host communities within the same locality. (IOM, 29 Jul 2025)
Heavy rainfall has been affecting eastern Sudan since 27 August, causing floods that resulted in casualties and widespread damage. According to media reports, as of 28 August at least 14 people have died—ten in River Nile State in north-eastern Sudan and four in Sennar State in south-eastern Sudan. In addition, around 1 078 people have been displaced, 154 houses destroyed, several villages damaged, and both power outages and building collapses reported. Further rainfall is forecast over southern and central Sudan in the next 48 hours. (ECHO, 28 Aug 2025)
The humanitarian impact of the severe flooding that has continued to affect Sudan since 27 August is still increasing. According to media reports, as of 28 August, at least 32 people died, including 23 in River Nile State, approximately 4 000 people have been displaced, and at least 2 038 homes have been destroyed. On 31 August, a huge landslide triggered by recent torrential rainfall occurred in the Marra Mountains area, Central Darfur state, south-western Sudan, resulting in casualties and significant destruction. According to media reports, the village of Tarasin has been completely buried by the landslide, leading to more than 1,000 fatalities. (ECHO, 2 Sep 2025)
