The Bahamas, Bermuda - Tropical Cyclone JOAQUIN
• Hurricane JOAQUIN is moving off the coast of Bermuda, as a Category 1 Hurricane. Previously it affected several Caribbean islands with heavy rains and winds, causing floods in the Bahamas and killing one person in Haiti.
• Over the next 24 h it is forecast to move north-east over the Atlantic Ocean, away from Bermuda, weakening.

TC MUJIGAE, known in the Philippines as KABAYAN, formed over the Philippine Sea late on 30 September and started moving towards central Luzon, strengthening into a Tropical Storm. It reached the coasts of Aurora province late in the afternoon (UTC) of 1 October, as a Tropical Storm.

• After the landfall it continued moving northwest over central Luzon, slightly weakening, and it emerged into the South China Sea early on 2 October.

Heavy rain and strong winds occured in Pagadian city, in Zamboanga del Sur province in Zamboanga Peninsula region (western Mindanao) over 21-23 September causing floods and landslides.

As of 23 September the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reports over 1 600 people affected and over 300 homes damaged due to floods as well as one person dead due to landslides.

  • Despite not making landfall, Typhoon Goni caused torrential rains over Luzon and the Batanes islands. 12 862 people were evacuated. 10 people have been reported dead, three persons are missing and seven have been injured.

  • With current sustained winds of 140 km/h Typhoon Goni is expected to leave the Philippines Area of Responsibility Sunday night/Monday morning, heading towards northern Japan.

• Typhoon GONI weakened as it approached the Babuyan group of islands in the Strait of Luzon. On 21 August, at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located 40km south-east of Babuyan Island and it had maximum sustained wind speed of 185km/h.

GONI (named “**INENG**” in the Philippines) formed over the northern Pacific Ocean, south-east of Guam, on 14 August. From there, it started moving north-west, intensifying.

1) PAKISTAN - Severe weather
• Heavy rain affected several areas of Pakistan over the last week, triggered river and lake overflow in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab provinces, affecting mostly the district of Chitral in northern KP.
• As of 19 July, the Provincial Disaster Management reports two people dead and widespread infrastructure damage. As a result, nearly 200,000 people are affected in Chitral, according to media, as of 21 July.

PHILIPPINES - Severe weather

• Strong winds and heavy rains have been affecting northern and central Philippines over several days, due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the Tropical Cyclones CHAN-HOM ("FALCON“) and LINFA ("EGAY").
• As of 14 July (NDRRMC), there are 16 dead and over 8,600 families affected in Luzon and Visayas.
• Over the next 24 h more heavy rain and thunderstorms, and possible consequent flash floods and landslides, may still affect some areas of Luzon.

Marshall Islands - Tropical Cyclone NANGKA
NANGKA formed over the northern Pacific Ocean on 3 July. On 6 July, at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located 360km west of Enewetak atoll and it was a Typhoon.
• Over the next 48h, NANGKA is forecast to continue moving north-west towards the Northern Mariana Islands, intensifying further. According to the data of 6 July (6.00 UTC), its track will approach only scarcely populated or uninhabited places.

Iraq - Conflict

• Lack of access to safety remains a grave concern as internally displaced persons (IDPs) from AlAnbar governorate are being prevented from leaving insecure areas.

• Threats of forced evictions, displacement and return movements in central Iraq are multiplying.

• Residents of Al Riyadh sub-district, in southwest Kirkuk, were requested by ISF to leave their village on 2 July.

  • 800 people remain displaced in South Cotobato and Sultan Kudarat, in the southern Philippines, due to floods caused by heavy rains over 24-25 June.

  • Over 1 900 hectares of agricultural farms have been damaged.

  • The Province of Sultan Kudarat declared a state of calamity.

  • The heavy rainfall is also seriously affecting the more than 30 000 people still displaced since the outbreak of fighting in February 2015 in Maguindanao. Most of them continue to live in makeshift shelters and tents.

NIGERIA - Violence
• Boko Haram's hit-and-run capability remains intact, despite advances by the Nigerian and Chadian armed forces. This week, Boko Haram insurgents killed 42 people in two villages of Borno State. A 12 year girl wearing a suicide bomb vest struck in Yobe, killing 10 people and injuring 30 others.
• Further displacement is ongoing in the North-East (already existing 1.5 million displaced people). Increased humanitarian assistance is needed.
