1. Introduction

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR) has organized the exercise of collecting the cases of disasters/hazards that occurred 2015 in order to create their shapefiles and produce localization maps and at the same time keep the disaster/hazard records in the Database.

The activity was planned in two quarters (Quarter Ill8c1V) and entitled "Organize and conduct Hazard and Disaster Mapping in Prone Areas Nationwide".

Climate change has the potential to cost small business owners billions in damages. Several research projects look at how larger businesses respond to extreme weather events but there is little knowledge on how small businesses are coping with the impacts of climate change. adelphi and the Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (IPAR-Rwanda) have conducted a survey on how small businesses in Kigali, Rwanda are being affected by recurrent flooding in the region. This snapshot by Christian Kind and Dr. Aime Tsinda highlights the work so far.

Above-average rainfall improves Season B production prospects

Key Messages

Poor households in the Bugesera Cassava, East Agropastoral and the East Congo Nile Highland Subsistence Farming Zones currently face Stressed (IPC Phase 2) acute food insecurity due to the combination of a poor start to Season B, yield reductions resulting from excessive rainfall in April and May, and labor and income losses accruing from reduced livestock production. An estimated 25,000 refugees from Burundi are currently in need of humanitarian assistance.
