Costa Rica: Floods - Dec 2010

Disaster description

In November 2010 a low pressure system generated intense rainfall and flooding in the northern area and Caribbean coast of the country, which severely impacted the regions’ water systems, damaging aqueducts and contaminating wells. According to the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (Comisión Nacionalde Gestión de Riesgo y Atención de Emergencias) approximately 247 communities and 13,500 people were affected.
