
Viet Nam: Floods - May 2010
Disaster description
In early May 2010, Viet Nam’s Northern provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lao Cai and Tuyen Quang, among others, were hit by whirlwinds and torrential rains, causing damage of more than 16 billion VND (Govt, 14 May 2010). By 19 May 2010, it was estimated that 6,000 homes were destroyed or damaged by the storms (OCHA, 20 May 2010). Flooding continued through to August 2010, with the government reporting three flood-related deaths in Quang Ninh province and 17 in Ha Giang province as of 19 August. (Govt, 19 Aug 2010)
