CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA Jul 07 2008 17:24 - Thousands of people have been displaced by flooding in Cape Town, the city said on Monday as the South African Weather Service predicted more rain.

About 16 000 people and 3 500 structures had been affected, most of them in low-lying areas of the Cape Flats, it said in a statement.

About 3 000 people were being housed in community halls; the rest were experiencing "extreme discomfort".

Johannesburg_(dpa) _ Heavy rains have made homeless Friday more than 4,000 people living in informal settlements in the Cape Peninsula, according to Sapa, the South African news agency.

The areas impacted by flooding include Samora Machel, Kosovo and Gugulethu.

Displaced persons were finding shelter in community halls and being provided with meals and blankets.

Johannesburg_(dpa) _ Two people died in torrential rains across the south coast of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province this week bringing the death toll to 12, police said Friday.

Six people died in the Port Shepstone area and six in the Umzinto, Umkooas region, a spokesman said.

The body of an 8-year-old boy was found in the rubble of his collapsed home in Louisiana on Thursday while the bodies of an 93-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman were discovered at their homes in Club Marina, Hibberdene.
