When the emergency is over

Psychosocial support programmes often start with an emergency – natural or manmade, and get a lot of focus in the response phase and into recovery. When things are back to normal, it is not always evident how to take care of newly developed resources. We do not, however, have to look for long to see that these capacities, if managed well, can make all the difference next time around.

CHF 127,000 (USD 120,952 or EUR 79,375) has been allocated from the Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the Argentine Red Cross in delivering immediate assistance to some 2,200 beneficiaries. Unearmarked funds to repay DREF are encouraged.

Summary: Since 9 March, constant rains causing the overflow of several rivers have affected several departments in Argentina. This DREF operation will be focused on providing emergency relief to those affected by the floods.

1. Breve descripción del evento

A partir del 9 de marzo de 2008 y como consecuencia de las lluvias en la zona, se registró una importante crecida de los ríos: Pilcomayo, Bermejo y el Caraparí (en sus tramos de la Provincia de Salta) exacerbando la situación de emergencia originada por la crecida del río Pilcomayo en el pasado mes de enero a causa de lluvias en Bolivia.
