Disaster description
Torrential rains commenced on 14 July in the Republic of Korea and particularly affected Gangwon, Kyonngi provinces and Seoul. By 24 July 2006, more than 520 mm of rain fell many cities in Gangwon province. The floods left 25 people dead; 4,630 people were affected, 2,182 people were housed in temporary shelters after 614 houses were destroyed and 2,180 houses were inundated. Heavy rainfall also cut off 181 roads and swept away 2,239 ha of farmland. (IFRC, 24 Jul 2006)
