The Agriculture official of Surin Province and a committee on the following up of compensation payment to disaster-affected farmers have paid more than 72 million baht in compensation to over 30, 000 farmers affected by natural disasters in 2004 and 2005.
Pirawat Sangnoi , Surin's Agriculture official, revealed that the province has compensated the farmers whose agricultural areas were damaged by natural disasters in 2004 and 2005. 37,754 farmers from 5 districts namely Muang, Tha Toom , Rattanaburi , Sanom , and Sikhoraphum .
Torrential rains hit Thailand's northern province of Chiang Rai Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Sorn, inundating more than 4,500 villagers' homes, 11 people died and making several roads impassable to small vehicles.
The Thai Red Cross Health Centre No.3 Chiang Mai and Red Cross Provincial Chapter have distributed 4,500 emergency relief family parcels and 3,800 household medicine kits to the affected.

BANGKOK, Aug 28, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Torrential rains hit Thailand's northernmost province of Chiang Rai on Saturday night, inundating more than 500 villagers' homes, making several roads impassable for small vehicles, reported the Thai News Agency Sunday.
More than 20 houses in two villages are now under water -- in some areas measured at over one meter deep after a reservoir burst and poured down a nearby mountainside.
A reservoir in another area also burst, spewing waters into four villages, causing more than 500 houses to be submerged.
