Les récoltes s'annoncent bonnes selon plusieurs sources, cependant des menaces de criquets pèlerins et des oiseaux granivores planent à la frontière tchado-soudanaise dans le Darfour, le Guera et le Batha. Les prix des céréales ont entamé une baisse depuis la deuxième moitié du mois d'août mais restent encore élevés par rapport à la normale.

Comments on the Current Niger Weather Conditions:

2005 seasonal rainfall throughout much of Niger has been greater than normal, leading to very good agricultural conditions in most of the region. As a result Niger is not carried as a weather hazard. The current food security crisis in Niger is the result of various factors including an early end to the rainy season and locust infestations last year as well as high cereal prices this year. Highlights

More flood damage in Darfur Although the impact of the floods is significant due to the heavy rains during the past two weeks, no outbreak has been reported so far. The drinking water distribution system was damaged, affecting El Fasher Town and Abu Shoak IDP camp, in North Darfur. An estimated 800 houses and 500 latrines were destroyed in Abu Shoak and Al Salam IDP camps, and 800 households were damaged in El Fasher Town. An additional 200 shelters and approximately 900 latrines collapsed in Ardamata IDP camp in West Darfur.

Bahr El Ghazal:

FAO participated in a returnees' assessment mission on 11 August to Diem Zubair, Wau town. According to WFP and OCHA in Diem Zubair, a total of 3,541 returmees (1,388 households) arrived and registered in Billi area. This group received food rations for 15 days in Diem Zubair and returned back to transit camp in Billi.
