ABOUT THIS ISSUE

The Paris Agreement, which was finalized at the Conference of Parties 21 (COP21) has been signed by 175 countries on April 22, 2016. This is the first step in implementing this historic agreement which seeks to limit global warming below 2oC. The ratification of this agreement, based on parliamentary discussion and approval within the signing countries would be the next step in making it come into force. Perhaps, this is the best time for nations to reflect on the best ways to implement the Paris Agreement.

Acknowledging the safe receipt of a humanitarian consignment of 50 ton of relief goods provided by the Iranian Red Crescent as the support for the victims of the flood in Pakistan, the chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society expressed his appreciation over the action taken by the Iranian Red Crescent Society for helping victims of the recent flood.

Silver Spring, Maryland In August, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) distributed relief aid to flood survivors in the province of Punjab in Pakistan.

At the request of the local government, ADRA distributed aid in Layyah, one of the hardest hit areas. ADRA provided 700 families with food and 165 families with tents. Each aid package includes such items as flour, rice, sugar, salt, lentils, and tea.

NEW YORK/KABUL - Floods, one of the most common natural disasters in Pakistan, have recently devastated parts of Sindh Province, upper Punjab Province, North West Frontier Province, and northern areas of Pakistan. Major rivers in North West Frontier Province, Punjab, and northern Pakistan have been at extremely high levels since mid-May due to heavy winter snowfall and unprecedented high temperatures in the region over the last months.

Geneva, 5 August 2005 - Floods are one of the most common natural disasters in Pakistan. Recently floods have devastated parts of Sindh Province, upper Punjab Province, North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and northern areas of Pakistan. Major rivers in NWFP, Punjab and the northern Pakistan have shown extremely high levels since mid-May 2005 due to heavy snowfall during winter and unprecedented high temperatures prevailing in the region over the last months. All the rivers of Pakistan flow into the Indus River in Sindh Province which has caused flooding in parts of Sindh Province.

The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is going to the aid of hundreds of animals at risk of starvation and disease following severe floods in remote areas of Pakistan.

Treatment Camps

WSPA will coordinate and deliver antibiotics, painkillers and food supplements to cattle, sheep and goats through treatment camps that will be set up and visited by experienced local veterinarians in the following districts of the Northern Areas:
