TUNIS, 3 NOVEMBER 2003 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (ADB) approved in Tunis on Tuesday, 28 October 2003, a grant of 500,000 US dollars to help finance a humanitarian relief assistance to people affected by floods during the 2003 summer in Sudan.
The ADB humanitarian relief assistance is to control the outbreaks of malaria, cholera and other communicable diseases among the flood victims.

Two thirds of the population (more than 300,000 people) have been left homeless and at risk of disease and starvation as a result of the devastating floods in and around the town of Kassala, in eastern Sudan. Plan is a member of the government's State Emergency Committee and has been assessing the situation and delivering emergency supplies to those most in need.
Jakarta, Oct. 2 (VNA) - The Viet Nam Red Cross has granted 10,000 USD to help the Sudanese people overcomer the aftermath of a flood. The aid was handed over to Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia Siddig Yousif Abu-Agla, who is also Ambassador to Viet Nam, by the Vietnamese Charge d'Affairs in Indonesia, Le Van Doan, on Thursday. The Sudanese diplomat expressed his government and people's thanks to the Vietnamese Government and people. He said Sudan and Viet Nam are witnessing new development in cooperation with this humantarian aid being a vivid manifestation.

ABECHE, Chad, Sept 25 (UNHCR) -- The first batch of relief supplies has arrived in eastern Chad to assist more than 65,000 Sudanese refugees who have been living under precarious conditions near the Chad -- Sudan border for months.
Heavy rains, impassable roads and an unusual increase in the number of cases have all confronted the Sudan team.
In the East of Sudan .. there runs Algash river .. spreading its blesses and pure water on which people of Eastern Sudan survives. It's considered as the vital vein of the area. Algash divides city of Kasala passing through many of its populated villages.

Khartoum (dpa) - Sudan's government and army began distributing aid to war-affected children in the south and west of the country, Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Sulaf Eldin Saleh said Friday.
"This is the first time the government has made such a public commitment,'' he said.
Without disclosing the sum of money involved, Saleh said the efforts included the distribution of clothes, food and other relevant items to children.

The situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate
as all Plan Program Unites are now affected by the rising flood waters.
No longer confined to the Kassala and River Atbara areas, Guli, Ed Duweim
and North Kordafan are now reporting on damage to, or isolation of, their
communities due to additional flooding. Kassala and River Atbara remain
the most seriously affected.
Plan is working in 28 villages in the rural areas of River Atbara in Kassala state. Some of these villages have been subjected to heavy flooding as a result of additional heavy rains.
