Tunis, le 7 octobre 2009 - Le Conseil d'administration de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a approuvé, le 6 octobre 2009 à Tunis, l'octroi d'un don d'un montant de 579 558 Unités de comptes (UC), soit l'équivalent de 625 923 euros, afin de financer une étude de protection contre les inondations des zones nord et est du grand Tunis.

L'objectif spécifique de l'étude est la protection rapprochée des zones Nord et Est du Grand Tunis, comportant quatre gouvernorats (Tunis, Ariana, Ben Arous et Mannouba).

More than 27,000 people have had to be evacuated from their homes in northern and central Tunisia since torrential rains, exacerbated by an intense cold wave in early January, caused the worst floods in 10 years in the country. At least six children have died, hundreds of houses were damaged or destroyed, and many livestock have drowned. Out of nine affected governorates in the country, Jendouba, Béja, Manouba and Bizerte are those which suffered the most damage.

WEEKLY AFRICAN WEATHER HAZARDS ASSESSMENT STATEMENT              
             
JANUARY 23, 2003 DISCUSSION:
     
1)   Recent rains in northern Tunisia and extreme areas in northern Algeria has resulted in saturated conditions and some local flooding.  Expect more rain throughout the period which could induce local flooding in some prone areas.
