The telecommunication needs are important, as a lot of areas are completely isolated. Only a few cellular phones, often jammed, were available to coordinate the S&R teams. Internet, phone and fax centres have been installed at the Red Cross' Crisis Centre at Guasdualito. A M4 data transmitter was installed in the town's hospital.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela appealed on Thursday for international financial support to help provide food, medicine and shelter for more than 35,000 people forced from their homes by flooding in the southwest of the country.

Four people were killed this week in the floodwaters which swamped the town of Guasdualito, 500 miles (800 km) southwest of Caracas, and huge expanses of surrounding farmland.
