San José, Costa Rica, 31 de julio de 2002.- El Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) entregó hoy una cooperación financiera no reembolsable por 55 mil 865 dólares al Gobierno de Costa Rica para contribuir a paliar los efectos de las inundaciones provocadas por una vaguada que ha causado daños en la zona atlántica del país.

El donativo fue entregado por el Presidente Ejecutivo del BCIE, Pablo Schneider y el Director por Costa Rica en el organismo regional, Juan Rafael Lizano, al Ministro de Agricultura y Ganadería, Rodolfo Coto Pacheco.

Washington, D.C. - At the commencement of National Hurricane Awareness Week (May 19 -25), the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) 2002 hurricane season preparations are well underway for what is expected to be an active hurricane season. Forecasts for the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season indicate average to above average total activity, potentially triggering a humanitarian disaster of significant magnitude.

USAID is prepared to respond to major hurricanes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

San Jose (dpa) - Heavy rainfall has flooded much of Costa Rica's Atlantic Coast, destroying 250 homes and displacing 5,000 people over the past days, reports said Saturday.

President Abel Pacheco declared a state of emergency for the worst flooding in 15 years.

1.1. TIPO DE EVENTO:

Un sistema meteorológico(vaguada), junto con otras variables de tipo climático interactuan generado abundante actividad lluviosa en la Vertiente del Caribe generando inundaciones en diferentes zonas de Limón. Se registran lluvias intermitentes de carácter moderado y débil en la parte costera del Caribe.
