Sri Lanka: Floods - Oct 2008

Disaster description

At least six districts in Sri Lanka experienced flooding since 23 October, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights. The National Disaster Relief Services Centre said up to 1,000 families had been displaced and in total more than 49,000 people were affected by the floods. At least four deaths were reported. On 30 November, the Disaster Management Unit - Jaffna reported that 93,404 families (321,138 persons) were affected by floods and 25,862 families (94,965 persons) had moved to 336 camps. (IASC Sri Lanka, 15 Dec 2008)
