MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur, Oct. 22 (PIA) – More assistance poured in for the residents in Magsaysay town, whose houses were either totally or partially damaged by the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck the municipality Wednesday night (October 16) last week.

The 1,180 affected households from 22 barangays, who converged at the municipal gym yesterday afternoon (Oct. 21) each received food pack, sleeping kit, trapal and a P2,000 cash assistance from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OSAP) and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

On 16 October 2019 at 7:37 pm, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake with 9 km depth of focus struck Tulunan municipality in the province of North Cotabato. The earthquake caused damage to houses and infrastructures in North Cotabato and nearby provinces.

As of 22 October, more than 700 aftershocks were recorded. According to government reports, more than 25,000 people were affected wherein more than 8,000 people are still displaced.

On 16 October 2019 at 07:37 PM, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the municipality of Tulunan, North Cotabato (06.75°N, 125.00°E - 022 km S 59° E) with a tectonic origin and a depth of focus of 8 km. The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring municipalities of North Cotabato.

A total of 1,653 families or 8,265 persons were affected by the earthquake incident in 52 barangays in Regions XI and XII (see Table 1).
