Fifty thousand relief booklets have been distributed by IRCS among earthquake affected people located in the province of Kermanshah and cash contribution will be donated from the public donations by IRCS to the families who have lost their familiy’s members during the earthquake.

Up to now, about IRR 600 billion of cash donation has been transferred to the IRCS bank account number in favor of the earthquake affected in Kermanshah province on Sunday, 12th November 2017. In addition to, the Iranian people provided the IRCS relief bases with 20.000 tons of food items.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society has provided nearly 21,000 health, medical and rehabilitation services to the earthquake victims in the province of Kermanshah.

These services, estimated at about 20,997 cases, include patient visits, medical emergencies, pregnancy services to pregnant women, physiotherapy and technical orthopedics.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society has been providing emergency services to earthquake victims since November 16.

A. Situation analysis

Description of the disaster

On 12 November, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the northern border region between Iran and Iraq.

• The earthquake hit at 21:18 local time (18:18 GMT) about 30 miles (19 km) southwest of Halabja, near the northeastern border with Iran.

• The earthquake occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 33.9 km (21.06 miles), and tremors were felt in Turkey, Israel, Kuwait, and the Gulf.

Iraq has endured years of disastrous conflict. Since 2014, 5.3 million children and adults in Iraq have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter from the fighting. More than 2.2 million people have now returned home but years of conflict have severely impacted the health sector and the needs are great.

As the last remaining cities are re-taken from the IS, more and more people are returning home. MSF has observed an increased number of families leaving the camps.

The joint operational plan between the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) targets 200,000 people worst-affected by the magnitude 7.3 earthquake, which struck Kermanshah province, near the border with Iraq.
