China: Earthquake - Apr 2013
A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya'an city in south China's Sichuan Province on 20 Apr 2013. The earthquake's epicenter was monitored near Lushan county at a depth of 13 kms. As 23 May, 196 people were killed, 14,785 injured, 237,655 displaced and 2.1 million affected. 193,000 houses collapsed and 510,000 were severely damaged. (IFRC, 23 Jul 2013)

NATURAL DISASTERS IN ASIA-PACIFIC 2013
The Livelihood Development Project in Ya’an disaster area put forwarded by Jinde Charities over the meeting of “Beautiful Village, Go Together with Charities”had got through evaluation of the project committee and got financial assistance from China Foundation of Poverty Alleviation. The project would be carried out in Dahe Village, Taiping Town, helping local people develop breeding industry in the form of professional cooperative of farmers.
New Countryside Commerce Net of MOFCOM carried out farm produce promotion activities in recent days to support Ya’an quake-stricken areas and set up Ya’an Online Farm Produce Matchmaking Platform. The Platform included Ya’an agricultural specialities, such as tea, ginger, cherry, Jinhua pear, loquat, kiwi, Chinese yam and apple being or to be on the market, and suppliers’ information. The period for sale is from May to December of 2013.
BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Natural disasters across China in April claimed 268 lives and left 21 people missing, according to an official statement on Wednesday.
Disasters affected more than 52.7 million people and forced 942,000 people to evacuate to safer places, said the statement jointly released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction.
Fighting continued unabated throughout Syria, in particular in Hama, Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Dar’a, Deir-ez-Zor, Homs, Idleb, Lattakia and around Damascus. 6.8 million people are in need in of humanitarian assistance in the country, 4.25 million people are displaced and over 1.4 million people have fled into neighbouring countries.

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit a rural area of Sichuan province in southwest China the morning of Saturday, April 20, affecting several Ya’an counties, including Lushan County, the quake’s epicenter.
The earthquake has affected 1.5 million people. As of April 22, the death toll stood at 188, with 25 missing and 11,460 injured.

At 08:02 on 20 April 2013, Beijing time, a level 7 earthquake hit Lushan County of Yaan City, Sichuan Province. Along with thousands of aftershocks, the earthquake caused severe damages in the affected areas. As at 12 May 2013, 8,791 aftershocks have been recorded, over 186,300 houses in rural areas and 6,700 houses in urban areas have totally collapsed. The death toll has reached 196 with 21 missing, 13,484 injured and over two million people affected.
6.8 million people are in need in of humanitarian assistance in Syria and the UNHCR has defined the crisis as the worst humanitarian disaster since the end of the cold war. 4.25 million people are displaced and over 1.3 million people have fled into neighbouring countries. Fierce fighting continues across the country and cross-border shelling into Lebanon has intensified over the last days.
