On January 18, 2010, the European Union Foreign Relations Council held an extraordinary session in order to coordinate EU efforts aimed at assisting earthquake-hit Haiti, as well as to express Member States' sympathy for the families of the victims.

Ambassador Gábor Iván represented Hungary at the meeting. The head of the Hungarian Permanent Representation at the European Union in his address emphasised the importance for the Union to act quickly and with determination with regard to the severe crisis in Haiti.
