1 GENERAL OVERVIEW

• 12 January 2012 marked the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale.
More than 220,000 people died, over 300,000 were injured, some 80,000 buildings collapsed, causingmillion cubic metres of rubble (approx.times the amount of debris left by the Septemberattacks), and displaced some 1.6 million people.
Memorial services were held all over the country.

Coordination

  • The World Food Programme as Logistics Cluster lead is maintaining a Logistics Cluster Cell in Port-auPrince, which coordinates the mobilisation and use of logistics assets and provision of logistics support services to the Humanitarian Community.

  • Since 12 January 2010, over 100 Logistics Cluster coordination meetings have been held, predominantly in Port-au-Prince, but on an ad-hoc basis also in CapHaitien, Gonaives, Jacmel, Petit Goave and Les Cayes.

On 03 February 2011, the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) announced the final results of the first round of the presidential election held on 28 November 2010. No major incidents and/or unrest were reported in the aftermath. The CEP is to decide, according to its mandate, the conditions in which the second round between the two leading candidates is to take place.
