AKRON, Pa. – As thousands of Haitians and Dominicans of Haitian descent face deportation from the Dominican Republic, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is offering humanitarian assistance and calling on people to pray and advocate on the behalf of those affected.

MONTE PLATA – La Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID) y Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) [Alianza para Ayuda a los Bateyes] lanzaron por quinto año consecutivo el Programa sobre Seguridad de Alimentos a través del cual se distribuirán 243.88 toneladas métricas de alimentos, valorados en RD$35 millones, entre 25,600 personas en República Dominicana y Haití. Este programa responde a los esfuerzos de ambas organizaciones para reducir la desnutrición y la falta de alimentos en la población más vulnerable de ambas naciones.

  • A Preliminary Appeal was launched on 3 November 2010 for 5,946,897 Swiss francs to support the Haitian Red Cross and the Dominican Red Cross to assist 345,000 beneficiaries.

CHENE, Dominican Republic — They have been blamed for spreading cholera, taking jobs and driving up crime, and now, with memories of the earthquake and the bonhomie it generated rapidly fading, this country is taking action: it is deporting Haitian refugees, turning them away from the border and generally making their lives difficult.

Benie Boner was photographed and fingerprinted last month in Chene, Dominican Republic, as part of the International Organization for Migration's project to help Haitian refugees repatriate.

Dominican Republic - IOM is today providing voluntary return assistance, in coordination with the Dominican General Directorate of Migration (DGM), to more than 150 vulnerable earthquake-displaced Haitians asking for assistance to return to their country.

The Haitian families, returning to their places of origin in the Haitian departments of Nord, Nord-Est, Nord-Ouest, and Artibonite, will be escorted by IOM staff and migration officials from the Dominican Republic and Haiti, to ensure safe and secure passage across the border in Dajabón.

InterAction member Physicians for Peace, which has a history of collaborative partnerships in Haiti, has just gotten a boost from the Major League Baseball Players Trust, a charitable foundation of the Major League Baseball Association.

The organization has awarded Physicians for Peace $50,000 to help Haitian support for amputees and provide distance-learning opportunities for their technicians. The grant will also promote information-sharing and best practices across both Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
