Today, the Chairman of the Noor Ul Islam Trust, Yusuf Hansa presented a cheque of =A35,100 to the Community Liaison Officer of Muslim Aid, Mr M.W Khokhar. This huge and generous amount was given exclusively to alleviate the suffering and the hardship of the survivors of the Brochistan earthquake which struck Pakistan on October 29th 2008. Mr Khokhar expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chairman and his trustees. Also present were the Imam of the Mosque and businessman Choudhry Mahmood Iqbal.
According to officials at least 200 people have been killed after an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude hit the Balochistan province in south-western Pakistan last night. Since then two tremors struck this morning meaning thousands more are expected to have lost their homes and the death toll is expected to rise.
The worst-hit area appears to be Ziarat, about 50km north of Quetta, where hundreds of mostly mud and timber houses had been destroyed in five villages- War Choom, Kawas Wam, Kan Depot and Serkhazee.
