ISTANBUL, Turkey, 24 March 2017 – Hundreds of delegates are heading to Istanbul for Europe’s top disaster risk reduction forum, two months before a global conference takes aim at natural and human-induced hazards.

Currently chaired by Turkey, a leader in the field, the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction runs from Sunday to Tuesday and is set to draw 500 participants.

IDMC's report explores the challenges in providing sustainable housing assistance to informal urban settlers displaced by disasters. It looks at nine case studies from Asia, America and Europe.

The report identifies the difficulties faced by urban informal settlers in receiving long-term housing assistance in post-disaster situations. Informal settlers are more exposed and vulnerable to displacement and are more likely to be relocated and excluded from the provision of durable housing assistance.

States, local and international NGO's run for the recovery of the people in the region. But there was a group untouched and forgotten. The disabled ones. They were the most suffering before the earthquake and after.

The construction of D=FCzce Beyciler Self Help Housing Project has been one of the biggest achivements in the region.

Silver Spring, Maryland -The Orta Relief Project, undertaken by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) following an earthquake in June 2000, has been completed. Approximately 7,300 people live in the city of Orta, and the province has another five towns and 22 villages.
