The Philippines Department of Health (DoH) declared measles outbreaks in five regions (region NCR, III, IV-A, VI and VII) on 7 February 2019. Cases are being reported in all 17 regions. 261 deaths have been declared in March 2019, which represents an increase of 385% from the same period in 2018.

With a median age of two years old, 56% of measles cases are under five years of age. As of 2 March 2019, 61% of cases are not vaccinated.

LAOAG CITY, March 1 (PIA) -- Following the measles outbreak declared in some regions in the country, the Provincial Health Office in Ilocos Norte urges parents, guardians, and caregivers to get children vaccinated against the infection.

According to provincial health officer Dr. Josephine Ruedas, “measles is a very contagious disease caused by virus. This can be prevented if a child is fully immunized.”

MAKATI CITY, Feb. 28 (PIA) -- Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the Makati Health Department (MHD) to expand the city’s ongoing measles vaccination drive to include children in Kinder to Grade 6 in the target age group, as part of intensified efforts to prevent the spread of measles in the community.

The mayor said an estimated 46,858 children in the said age group may receive their vaccines at their respective schools, during house to house visits done by MHD health personnel, or at their barangay health centers, whichever can be done first.

TAGUM CITY (PIA)—The number of suspected cases of measles in Davao del Norte province is "manageable." Just the same, health authorities are appealing to parents to have their children vaccinated against the highly contagious disease.

During the latest edition of Kapihan sa Kapitolyo, Davao Regional Medical Center Infection Control Head Mitzie Lou Osabel revealed that only 10 cases of measles were recorded during the disease surveillance in January 2019.

ILOILO CITY, Feb. 27 (PIA) – The Department of Health (DOH)-6 has intensified the conduct of door-to-door immunization on measles targeting unvaccinated children aged six to 59 months.

Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DOH-6 Medical Officer IV, said health workers in local government units have started the door to door immunization on measles to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Reyes said that unlike last year, parents now are more receptive to the health personnel conducting the measles vaccination.

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Feb. 26 (PIA) -- The increasing number of measles cases in Eastern Visayas has prompted the Department of Health 8 (DOH-8) to declare “white code alert” status and the establishment of incident command system (ICS).

Ma. Elena Villarosa, DOH-8 immunization program manager, said the declaration was in response to the rapid transmission of measles cases in most parts of the region, especially in the province of Leyte.

PAGADIAN CITY, Feb. 22 (PIA)— In response to the measles outbreak in some parts of the country, the Pagadian City Health Office is conducting a month-long door-to-door measles -Rubella campaign from February to March this year.

City Health Officer Dr. Noel Ceniza in a radio interview said the CHO needs to intensify its campaign in order to reach children ages six months to five years old to have them immunized and prevent illness.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Feb. 20 (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) Region 1 has recorded a total of 309 measles cases and 11 deaths as of Feb. 16.

Pangasinan registered the most with 257 cases while La Union has 28; Ilocos Sur with 14; and Ilocos Norte at 10.
