Le 28 juillet 2018, la Division provinciale de la santé du Nord-Kivu a notifié au Ministère de la santé de la République démocratique du Congo un groupe de cas présumés de fièvre hémorragique aiguë. Le 1er août 2018, l’Institut national de recherche biomédicale (INRB) à Kinshasa a indiqué que quatre des six échantillons collectés sur des patients hospitalisés avaient donné un résultat positif à la PCR automatisée GeneXpert.

On 28 July 2018, the North Kivu Provincial Health Division notified the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo of a cluster of suspected acute haemorrhagic fever cases. On 1 August 2018, the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) in Kinshasa reported that four of six samples collected from hospitalised patients tested positive by GeneXpert automated PCR. These presumptive positive tests prompted an immediate escalation of response activities by the Ministry of Health, WHO and partners, and the declaration of the outbreak by the Minister of Health.

Addis Ababa, 03 August 2018: The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on 01 August 2018 declared a new outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in two Provinces: North Kivu (32 cases) and Ituri (one case). On 28 July 2018, the North Kivu Provincial Health Division notified the Ministry of Health of suspected EVD cases which were subsequently confirmed by laboratory testing at the Institut National de Recherché Biomédical (INRB). This is the tenth outbreak of EVD in the DRC; the ninth outbreak was declared over on 24 July 2018 in the Equateur Province.

Kampala - Ministry of Health has warned Ugandans residing in districts bordering Ebola-stricken DR Congo, against the consumption of bush meat through which the disease is said to be spread.

Leaders in DR Congo on Tuesday confirmed 20 people had died from the haemorrhagic fever in and around Mangina, a densely populated town about 100km from the Uganda’s Mpondwe border post in the Western district of Kasese.

Suite à l’annonce par le Gouvernement de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC) le 1er août d’une nouvelle épidémie de maladie à virus Ebola dans la Province du Nord-Kivu, l’UNICEF mobilise ses équipes afin d’aider à éviter la propagation de la maladie.

« La zone concernée est touchée par des conflits armés et fait face à des défis particuliers en termes de sécurité », a souligné le Dr Gianfranco Rotigliano, Représentant de l’UNICEF en RDC.

• The Minister of Health declared an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on August 1 st 2018, following the confirmation of four cases of Ebola in the Mabalako health zone of the territory of Beni, North Kivu province, Eastern DRC.

• As of August 3, 2018, a total of 49 cases have been reported across 7 health zones in two provinces, i.e. five health zones (Beni, Butembo, Oicha,
Musienene and Mabalako) in North Kivu province; and two health zones (Mandima and Mambasa) in Ituri province.

On 1 August, a new Ebola Virus outbreak was declared in Mabalako health zone, Beni territory, Nord Kivu, when four samples collected from patients suffering from an ‘unknown disease’ tested positive for the virus. So far, 33 cases including 20 deaths (CFR: 60.6%) have been reported, though the latest official press release states 26 cases and 20 deaths as of 28 July. The declaration of this outbreak followed detection of a significant cluster of suspected viral haemorrhagic fever in July in Nord Kivu.

On 1 August 2018, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared an outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after confirming four new cases in the Mangina area, in the territory of Beni, North Kivu.

UK aid agency CAFOD is already working alongside local partners in the area and has contacted specialists in Caritas Congo who responded to the Ebola outbreak in Equateur province.

People in the affected communities urgently need information about how to keep their families safe from the disease, how to spot early symptoms, and where to go for help.
