Chad: The outbreak seems to be under control. As per the end of W48, only the Regional Health Delegation of Salamat reported few sporadic cases. Based on the sitreps available (accessible online under “Current Outbreaks/Chad”), as per W49, no new cases were reported.
Nigeria: Only 2 LGAs in North East Nigeria are reported the remaining cases (Guzamala and Monguno).

Focus on the situation report of the cholera epidemic in Sila and Salamat health regions - Eastern Chad as of Nov.15th 2017

We have observed an important decrease of cholera incidence over the few weeks from Salamat Health region. No additional case were reported from Sila Health region, since Oct. 4th. Highlights

  • UNICEF and its partners continued to respond to the cholera outbreak in the regions of Sila and Salamat. At the end of October 2017, 708 cases of which 23 deaths (death rate of 3.82%) were reported.

The security situation in neighbouring countries has led to significant movements of people to Chad. The country also has recurrent epidemics (hepatitis E, cholera) and thousands of malaria cases that have a direct impact on the morbidity and mortality of children under five.

The cholera epidemic declared on 18 September is ongoing in Chad’s Salamat region, where 795 cases and 23 deaths have been reported.

A cholera epidemic in Chad has followed the Bahr-Azoum River along its meandering path southward, from the eastern Sila region to the more heavily populated district of Am Timan, in Salamat, near the Central African Republic.

Many people wash and bathe in the river, and even drink from it.

AID CONVOY AMBUSHED, ONE KILLED

Gunmen on 4 November ambushed an aid convoy heading to the northern Ndélétown, robbed the entire cargo of one truck and killed a driver. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator condemned the latest attack on aid workers in a country where half the population depends on relief assistance for survival. So far this year, 13 humanitarian workers have been killed in the country.
