République démocratique du Congo - Dix-sept cas d’Ebola (12 suspects, trois probables et deux confirmés) ont récemment été signalés en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), d’après l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé. A ce jour, quatre personnes sont mortes de la maladie. L’épidémie reste actuellement confinée à la zone de santé de Likati, où le Ministre congolais de la santé publique a été officiellement averti de l’épidémie le 11 mai 2017.

  • Bas-Uele province has seen an increase of the number of refugees from the Central African Republic (C.A.R.) in the past month. Since 30 April, more than 21,000 refugees have crossed the border into DRC. WFP requires additional resources to respond to this new influx.

  • A new influx from Central African Republic was observed in Bas-Uele and Nord Ubangi provinces starting from mid-May. The influx was triggered by violence, tensions and fear about imminent attacks in border areas, namely in the city of Bangassou, Bema and Mobayi.

  • As of 19 May, the total number of refugees and asylum seekers in Uganda is 1.25 million with an average of more than 2,000 people arriving daily from Burundi, South Sudan and the DRC. Of these, 738,957 are children under 18 years.

  • Food insecurity persists in most areas of the Karamoja region due to food scarcity, high market prices and delayed rains, with the exception of Abim District where crop and pasture conditions have significantly improved.

• As of 4 June 2017, there were 4 recorded deaths, including 1confirmed Ebola case and 3 probable cases.

• The last confirmed case was reported and isolated on 11 May translating to 21 days without a confirmed case as of 2 June 2017.

SUICIDE BLAST KILLS SEVEN, HALTS AID MISSIONS

A suicide bomber on 2 June killed nine people and wounded 30 others in Kolofata area in Cameroon’s Far North region. The attack was the 18th of its kind since January and prompted the suspension of UN missions to the area. Insecurity and persistent Boko Haram attacks are the main hindrance to aid delivery in the region. On 26 May, a suicide bomber struck Kolofata as a mission by UN agencies was about to arrive.

Multidisciplinary teams in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are faced with numerous challenges as they respond to an outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the remote, forested regions in the northern part of the country. WHO and other partner agencies led by the Ministry of Health have secured and set up a base to coordinate their work and end the outbreak as quickly and as safely as possible.

Resurgence of Cholera Outbreak in Yemen

The current cholera outbreak in Yemen, started in October 2016, showed a sign of decline in the first three months of the year. An upsurge of cases and deaths were recorded from 27 April 2017. As of 28 May 2017, a cumulative total of 88,849 suspected cholera cases including 657 associated deaths (CFR: 0.73%) were recorded from 261 districts in 19 governorates across the country since the beginning of the outbreak in 2016
