Highlights:

R. D. Congo: The major cholera outbreaks are still concentrated in the eastern endemic provinces, particularly in Tanganika (83), Haut Katanga (84) and South Kivu (159). South Kivu records 35% of cholera cases. A total of 7 deaths were recorded in the week of 21. In addition, a cholera outbreak was reported in the province of Kasaï Oriental during weeks 20 and 21 with respectively 35 and 25 cases.

WHO WARNS OF POLIO SPREAD RISK

Two vaccine-derived poliovirus cases have been reported in the south-central Bambari health district. WHO warned on 24 May that there is a high risk of transmission of the virus as both cases were among internally displaced people living in a locality with a population of around 8,000. The two cases had no history of polio vaccination. Vaccination coverage in the affected district is 50 per cent. Insecurity is among the major access obstacles.

Health & Nutrition key highlights

In Adjumani district, 185 measles cases, inclusive of nine (4.9%) refugees have so far been reported and managed in Adjumani district from 01 February to 31 March 2019. A Total of seven deaths, including a one year old refugee child, has so far been reported (case fatality rate of 3.8%). The cumulative attack rate for the district is 50 measles cases per 100,000 population.

Since 4 May intercommunal clashes between armed groups affiliated to Banyamulenge and Bafuliri ethnicities have triggered large-scale displacement across three bordering territories (Fizi, Uvira and Mwenga) in Sud Kivu province. Some 125,000 people from 100 villages fled to safer neighbouring villages and to the surrounding forests. Armed groups looted and burnt villages, causing severe damages to shelter and critical infrastructure including health and sanitation facilities. Displaced people are in need of food, shelter and NFIs, WASH and health assistance.

Kinshasa, 24 mai 2019. En 2018, selon le Rapport annuel du Fonds Humanitaire en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), au moins 2,54 millions de personnes ont pu être assistées grâce aux projets financés par le Fonds Humanitaire RDC.

In 2018, the DRC Humanitarian Fund (DRC HF) provided humanitarian assistance to 2.54 million people, allocating $67.9 million to 125 humanitarian projects in support to the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).

These allocations mainly targeted the eastern provinces - Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Tanganyika,
Haut-Katanga - and the province of Kasaï.

Most of the allocations supported conflict-related population movements where access to basic services has been significantly reduced.
