Sri Lanka: Dengue Outbreak - Sep 2009

Disaster description

In 2009, the morbidity and mortality due to dengue in Sri Lanka were significantly higher than in the previous years, with 35,007 cases and 346 deaths. In addition, there were 4,812 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever with 42 deaths in Colombo district. Some 43,000 beneficiaries were reached with dengue prevention interventions in three districts (70 per cent of the target population), which covered nearly 9,200 households. (IFRC, 20 Jul 2010)
