A total of 75,099 families or 307,898 persons were affected in 612 barangays, 97 cities/municipalities, and 12 provinces in Regions V, VIII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA (see Table 1; Annex A for details).

A DAY before the New Year, Philippine Red Cross (PRC)’s staff and volunteers are working in areas ravaged by Tropical Depression Usman—from providing relief to clearing operations.

Chairman Richard Gordon said the organization will continue its work to help restore the lives of people in most affected areas, including the Bicol and Samar regions.

  • Tropical Depression Usman has caused flood and landslides affecting around 130 000 persons from Regions IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas). According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 68 have died and 19 are still missing. Four provinces in Region V (Bicol) and 8 municipalities in Orinetal Mindoro have been placed under state of calamity. These are Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Camarines Norte where most of the victims of landslides are located.

Storms and heavy rain have caused severe flooding and landslides in the center of the island nation. Authorities have warned of continuing heavy rain ahead of New Year's celebrations.

Rescue teams in the Philippines on Sunday searched for dozens of missing residents after Cyclone Usman swept through the Southeast Asian archipelago, leaving 22 people dead.

The tropical storm brought heavy rain to the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions, causing massive flooding and landslides, the country's civil defense office said.

  1. In Week 52, tropical depression “Usman” made landfall in Philippines wrecking havoc. A total of 6 earthquakes of M5.0 and above were reported this week (BMKG and USGS).

  2. An earthquake of M7.2 was reported near Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental. A tsunami warning was triggered but cancelled after 2 hours. No damages was reported thus far by NDRRMC as of 30 Dec 2018 1200hrs (UTC+7). Public have been advised to avoid sea travel following an earthquake warning as rough seas might occur.
