Early this year, Zambia experienced continuous heavy rains which resulted to floods, causing significant damages and losses.

On Wednesday, 21st February 2018 districts of Petauke and Chama were reported to be flooded. These floods washed away a bridge connecting Lundazi and Chama districts causing heavy traffic delay and the floods also caused destruction of houses , leading to displacement of community members.

Following the post-election violence in Burundi and the continued deterioration of the lives of affected population, the ACT Alliance members in Burundi are concerned about its impact on the economy and their livelihood systems. A total of 263,000 Burundian refugees and asylum seekers have arrived in the neighbouring countries of Tanzania, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Rwanda since April.

Zambia has been experiencing torrential rains which has led to flooding, displacement of people and a cholera outbreak in Lusaka and other parts of the country.

As of March 24th, a total of 2521 cholera cases and 41 deaths were reported within Lusaka since 18 January 2010. Lusaka currently remains the epicenter of the cholera outbreak with four townships being the worst affected. (Chipata, Kanyama, Kamwala and Chawama.) A total of 611 cases were reported over last week in Lusaka alone.
