NCHELENGE, Thursday 15 February 2018 – A team from the European Union (EU) met with Congolese refugees and familiarized themselves with the situation at Kenani Transit Centre and Mantapala Refugee Settlement in Zambia’s Nchelenge District, Luapula Province.

The new cases are; Chipata Compound (10 cases), Kanyama (6) and Matero (3) Current admission are Chipata Compound (13), Kanyama (12) and Matero (16) Cumulative cases; Chpata (129), Kanyama (113), Bauleni (1), Chawama (3) and Matero (17).

The cumulative number of Cholera cases has since increased to 263 from the time the disease broke out in Lusaka.

THE United Nations (UN) system in Zambia has given Government K28.5 billion for the implementation of the anti-Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Act and promotion of human rights. Human rights and governance programmes have been allocated K16 billion while anti-GBV programmes have received K12.5 billion.

Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba and UN resident co-ordinator Kanni Wignaraja signed the agreements in Lusaka yesterday. Ms Wignaraja said in an interview after signing the agreements that reports of GBV, especially against women in Zambia, are alarming.
