Following a two year process,
UN-Habitat was accredited to the Adaptation Fund in August 2015. It has since successfully submitted a concept note entitled, “Enhancing the climate and disaster resilience of the most vulnerable rural and emerging urban human settlements in Lao PDR”.

The Ministers/Representatives of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam (hereafter referred to as the “Lower Mekong Countries”); the European Union, the Governments of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, and the United States; and the World Bank (hereafter referred to as the “Development Partners”); and Mekong River Commission (MRC), collectively referred to as “the Participants,”

Cette enveloppe vient s'ajouter aux 7 millions d'euros annoncés en mai pour aider le Bangladesh à intensifier ses mesures de préparation en vue de la saison des pluies.

As Southeast Asia is faced with the yearly monsoon season and its potentially devastating effects, the European Commission has released €6 million for disaster preparedness initiatives in the region.
This funding comes on top of the € 7 million announced in May to support Bangladesh scale up preparedness measures for the rainy season.
Published in August 2017, The 2017 Cluster Munition Monitor report reports that the number of people killed or injured by cluster munitions more than doubled between 2015 and 2016. There were 971 casualties of these barbaric weapons in 2016 compared with 419 in 2015. Civilians account for 98 percent of submunition casualties reported around the world.
