Highlights
- The Turkish economy grew by 7.4 percent in 2017 and the unemployment rate decreased to 10.8 percent in January 2018.
- CPI inflation declined marginally from 10.35 percent in January to 10.23 percent in March. The fall in inflation in March was mainly due to base effects, while the headline inflation level remained at alarming double digit levels.
- In March 2018, the revised refugee MEB, relying on Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) consumer prices, cost an average of over 2,261 TL for a household of six.

The AIDA report refers to unlawful push backs along the Turkey-Syria border, as well as allegations of unlawful returns at other land borders, have continued throughout 2017. Reported incidents include the use of violence and shootings against people entering the territory.

The European Court of Auditors is conducting an audit of the Facility for Refugees in Turkey.
The Facility was established on 1 January 2016 following a call from the European Council for significant additional funding to support refugees in Turkey. It has a budget of €3 billion, made up of €1 billion from the EU budget and €2 billion from the Member States. The auditors will examine whether the Facility is providing effective support. They have also published a Background Paper on the Facility as a source of information for those interested in the subject.

- Turkey’s annual consumer prices remained high throughout the fourth quarter, peaking at 12.98 percent in November, and finishing the year at 11.92 percent in December.
- High annual inflation was largely driven by an 18.24 percent increase in the cost of transportation, and a 13.79 percent increase in the cost food and non-alcoholic beverages.
