KEY CONCERNS

• Grounds for detention in immigration law appear to be formulated in a nonexhaustive way, which is inconsistent with the principle of lawfulness and the requirement of legal certainty;

• The law provides an expansive list of situations that can lead to a risk of absconding determination, including irregular entry or stay;

• The broad basis for finding a risk of absconding leads to detention being applied systematically rather exceptionally, thus “less coercive measures” are rarely used;

ROME – Luxembourg and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have signed a four-year agreement, confirming the long-standing partnership between the Grand Duchy and the UN’s frontline organization working towards zero hunger globally by 2030.

The agreement between Luxembourg and WFP was signed yesterday by Romain Schneider, Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action of Luxembourg, and WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin. The signature took place during a “virtual” ceremony, in a video-conference link between Luxembourg City and WFP headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Le service LISKO (Lëtzebuerger Integratiouns- a Sozialkohäsiounszenter), centre luxembourgeois pour l’intégration et la cohésion sociale, a été officiellement inauguré le 13 juin en présence de Corinne Cahen, ministre de la Famille et de l’Intégration. Ce service de la Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise, conventionné par le ministère de la Famille et de l’Intégration, soutient les bénéficiaires de protection internationale (personnes ayant obtenu le statut de réfugié) à s’intégrer au mieux dans la société luxembourgeoisesans perdre de vue la cohésion sociale dans son ensemble.

ATHENS, Greece, Nov 4 (UNHCR) – It was the crack of dawn when 30 asylum-seekers from Syria and Iraq gathered around the departure gate at Athens International Airport on Wednesday, bound for a new life in a new land.

The atmosphere was full of expectation. Some could barely contain their excitement, others were more reserved. The children were sleepy but calm and smiling. Amid hugs and goodbyes, last photos were taken and the refugees walked through the gate to leave years of war and hardship behind.
