Untapped potential

Food fortification – adding vitamins and minerals to commonly eaten foods - has proven to be an effective strategy in reducing micronutrient deficiencies. Countries in North America and Europe have been fortifying foods since the 1920s, which led to the virtual eradication of nutrition-related diseases like goiter, rickets, beriberi and pellagra. But today 2 billion people across the world still suffer from vitamin and mineral deficiencies, as nutritious foods are still not accessible to all.

The majority of those returned to Turkey are Pakistani nationals (38 percent of total). Syrians constitute 19 percent of the total number of those returned, and are followed by Algerians, Afghans and Bangladeshis.
In total, 337 Syrians have been returned to Turkey to date. 36 of them have been returned on the basis that their asylum claims were found inadmissible at 2nd instance.

Indonesia’s mountainous Sulawesi Island is famed for its many active volcanoes and numerous lakes. It is also an area of high seismic activity.

Agriculture plays a key role in supporting the local economy through the production of cocoa, coconut, rice, vegetables and fruit. Fishing, forestry and nickel mining are also major activities on the island which hosts national parks including the Bogani Nani Wartabone, home to many species endemic to the island.
