Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi on October 23, during which the two sides exchanged views on the refugee situations in Asia and the global community and discussed ways that the Republic of Korea and the UNHCR could work more closely together.

Drought, earthquakes, floods, typhoons, volcanoes, and civil unrest, compounded by limited government response capacity in some countries, present significant challenges to vulnerable populations in the East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) region. Between FY 2008 and FY 2017, USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and USAID’s Office of Food for Peace (USAID/FFP) provided humanitarian assistance in response to a range of natural and complex emergencies in the region.
On Monday 16 October 2017 the Council adopted the EU Annual Report on Human Rights And Democracy in the World in 2016.
2016 was a challenging year for human rights and democracy, with a shrinking space for civil society and complex humanitarian and political crises emerging. In this context, the European Union showed leadership and remained strongly committed to promote and protect human rights and democracy across the world.
The Foreign Ministry will hold the 2017 interagency meeting on foreign grants on May 2 to complete the work on the comprehensive plan on grant aid for the year 2018. Second Vice Foreign Minister Ahn Chong-ghee will preside over the meeting.

NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS -- Military members from six nations joined together for a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief deployment throughout the region of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Feb. 14-18.
The deployment is part of Cope North 16, a multilateral exercise, including the U.S. Air Force and air forces from across the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Belgrade, 17 Dec 2015 – Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin met yesterday with Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Serbia Lee Do-Hoon, who announced that his country has decided to donate to Serbia aid worth $1 million.
Do-Hoon explained that half of the funds is intended for direct budget support, and the other half for the UNHCR.
According to Do-Hoon, the funds will be used to improve border control, support refugee camps and medical assistance to migrants.
